I read a blog about de-clawing of domestic cats.
IT'S BAD! VERY BAD ... IT IS ACTUALLY AMPUTATION OF THE FIRST KNUCKLE!
Also it's terribly difficult to keep the stubs from getting infected while healing +
even after healing it causes pain and balance problems for the animal in most cases.
More than just the claw is removed, take a look:

As you can see above .. this is NOT HUMANE - IT IS CLEARLY TRAUMATIC.
Their behavior also changes dramatically and " In some cases, when declawed cats use the litterbox after surgery, their feet
are so tender they associate their new pain with the box...permanently, resulting in a life-long adversion to using the litter box".
There are other options and cats CAN be trained, but not in the same manner as dogs.
